Rotherham Day
Honouring the Past. Celebrating the Present. Inspiring the Future.
one day, each year, bringing together schools, businesses, charities and community leaders — united by one shared goal: to celebrate everything that makes our town proud.
What is It?
Rotherham Day isn't one event in one place. It's a town-wide moment, happening in classrooms, high streets, community halls and everywhere in between. If you live, work or belong here, this day is yours.
why it matters
For too long, the story of Rotherham has been told by others. Rotherham Day hands that story back to the people who know it best, the ones who live it every single day.
the vision
Our aim is for Rotherham Day to become an annual tradition, something every school, every business, and every resident looks forward to, takes part in, and is proud to call their own.
WHO'S taking part
Rotherham Day brings together a vibrant mix of local organisations, businesses, community groups, and schools who are proud to be a part of our town. They're getting involved in their own unique ways, hosting activities, wearing red for the day and together helping to bring the town to life and make Rotherham Day a celebration for everyone.

How to participate
There's no single correct way to take part, it's about celebrating in your own way. Sometimes the simplest ideas have the biggest impact. The key is getting involved, showing pride in Rotherham, and helping create something the whole town can be proud of. See some ideas below to get your inspired and Rotherham Day ready.

Residents
Tie a red ribbon on your car or front door. Send us a picture of your pet wearing red. Wear red on the 18th, some local businesses will give you a discount for it! Get out, attend something, and spread the word. Tell your neighbours, share it on socials, and be proud of where you're from.

Businesses
Get your team in red for the day. Decorate your shop front. Run a Rotherham Day discount for people wearing red. Host an activity that fits your business. Post about it, back the pledge publicly, and show your customers you're proud to be part of this town.

Schools
Wear red on the 18th. Run a colour run, a poetry contest, or a special assembly. Get involved with the baton relay across the borough. However you mark the day, make sure your students know why it matters.

Charities
Wear red. Put posters in your windows and decorate your shop front. Show the town that the organisations working hardest for Rotherham are proud to be here, and proud to be part of this.
However you're planning to get involved, let us know, and we'll feature you on the site.
Common Questions
Rotherham Day is an annual town-wide celebration taking place every 18th September. It brings together schools, businesses, charities, sports clubs and residents to celebrate everything that makes Rotherham special. It isn't one event in one place, it's a borough-wide moment where everyone takes part in their own way, from wearing red to running events, school activities to shop front decorations.
For too long, Rotherham's story has been told by others. This town has world-class businesses, incredible schools, passionate community leaders and a history built on hard work and resilience, and none of that gets the recognition it deserves. Rotherham Day exists to change that. Not defensively, not politically, just proudly. One day a year where we celebrate what we've built and who we are.
The ambition is big. In year one, we want every school, business, charity and care home in the borough to feel part of the day. Long term, we want Rotherham Day to become one of the most recognised civic celebrations in the country, attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, raising money for local charities, and creating a legacy that future generations grow up proud to be part of.
However feels right for you. Wear red on the 18th. Decorate your shop front. Run a special lesson or assembly. Post about it. Back the pledge. Tag us in what you're doing and we'll feature you on the site. There's no single correct way to take part, this day belongs to everyone in Rotherham.
